As the internet becomes increasingly regulated, it is important to make sure your website is compliant before launching. Failure to do so could result in hefty fines, or even having your site shut down. There are a number of things to consider when ensuring compliance, such as country-specific regulations, industry-specific regulations, and general best practices.
You may not have the funds to hire an expensive lawyer when you are first starting out, but here are a few sites that you can use to ensure you at least have the basics covered.
Legal terms & Privacy policies
- Termly.io - Similar to get terms - starts at $9/month
- Legal Zoom - DIY service or attorney advice, on retainer starting at $31 per month.
- RocketLawyer - Legal documents, advice etc all for $39 per month.
What do I need?
This is not legal advice. That being said, at minimum, make sure your site has simple terms and conditions, and privacy policies and is compliant with local laws. Particularly if you are serving customers in the EU.
You can start with one of the generators mentioned above, but as your site grows, it is prudent to consult with a qualified attorney to make sure you are covered.
